Vegan Hotspot episode 8 NYC Veggie Pride Parade 2010
Linda Long and Freya Dinshah, head of the American Vegan Society, celebrating its 50th anniversary ran about the Veggie Pride Parade celebration.
The exciting Veggie Pride Parade pops-up every year in May at Union Square in NYC. Founder, Pamela Rice makes the magic happen.
After the Parade folks gather for food tastings, vendors, and speeches, and more. You can pick up an assortment of brochures and flyers and learn of other events coming in the city. There is even a soapbox, so if you want to hop up and have a go at speaking your thoughts, you can.
Join us in the fun this year on Sunday, May 15th 2011, with the extraordinary Dr. Michael Klaper, who is taking the red-eye from California to be there to keynote on the podium in the center of the Square! A delightful way to spend the day.

Lulu Sweet Apothecary with Heather Mills
Sharing a thick chocolate milk shake using two old-fashioned metal straws with Heather Mills is an experience for all time, and a heck of a lot of fun. Lula's Sweet Apothecary in the East Village is the perfect place on any day for a trip back in time for a great treat. The store is tiny and the atmosphere is unique for current fashion made very special by owners Blythe Boyd and Derek Hackett. They make daily rotating flavors. I always seem to want their Chocolate Peanut Butter. But, I should try others, especially the Cake Batter Soft Serve! If you are vegan or lactose intolerant you are in luck. If you are not, you are still in luck. The mostly cashew-based ice creams suits all tastes, and are so very, very smooth and creamy.
Heather is training for the Paralympics Downhill, running a great restaurant, VBites, in England, supporting a free-to-children one in the Bronx, launching a uniquely-designed vegan cookbook, Love Bites, owning The Redwood Co., an alternative to meat, fish and cheese products, and so many other projects that I think she needed a break at Lula's. With the weather getting better in New York it is a perfect break for anyone. But, if you go, know that one visit will never be enough.
