Veggietorials by Request: Episode 2 Vegan Takoyaki

Break out your neglected cake pop maker and let's make some savory Japanese street food! These balls are best served piping hot, topped with awesome sauce, green onions and furikake.

Mahalo for watching! Click here { } for the full recipe and printable ingredient list.

Recipe adapted from Cooking with Dog:

Recipe method note:

I did not flip the takoyaki in the traditional method because the cake pop maker does not get as hot as a takoyaki pan. Each time you open the lid, the heat becomes irregular. So, I could not get the balls to set properly with the quarter turn, fill with batter, turn technique. If you have had success, please share a video response with me so I can learn the magic touch :)

Konyaku (yam cake) This gives a chewy texture, similar to octopus, but without a very distinct flavor.

You can find these ingredients at any Asian market. The Vegg can be purchased online or in many "natural" food stores. If you don't have a cake pop maker, you can make these in a traditional takoyaki pan or an aebelskiver pan.
