Also, an Australian slaughterhouse, who caused the death of a worker through negligence, get off with a light slap on the wrist. They also discuss the possibility of the Japanese whaling season ending early after just one minke whale was slaughtered. In bad news for vivisection a recent paper finds mouse models to be wholly inadequate in the prediction and development of treatment for certain human diseases. To add insult to injury for the vivisection industry, a group of scientists declare that many animals (including those used in vivisection) are indeed conscious.

So Australia is on fire. Extreme conditions leading to multiple bush fires is exacerbated by climate change, according to the Australian government Climate Commission. Stevie and Luc decide to get topical in this episode with a feature on climate change and animal agriculture, amidst the mainstream radio silence surrounding the shorter lived climate forcers of methane, black carbon, and ground-level ozone. Come on a sciency-geek-fest of mind-blowing statistics that should shake even the most deep-seated environmentalist from their flesh-and-secretions consuming slumber.
Stevie and Luc also look at a new report on food wastage around the world, from farm to table. This report also shows that animal products are grotesquely inefficient and the way we eat and farm will have to change if we are to feed a growing population of earthlings.
This episode is dedicated to all the victims of the Australian bush-fires including nonhuman victims both farmed and free.
