"Our Hen House produces resources that you can use in order to find your own way to change the world for animals. Using video, audio, interviews, reviews, and the written word, it provides daily updates on what you need to create change. Changemakers come in all shapes and sizes -- artists, grassroots activists, academics, lawyers, students, business moguls, media darlings, etc. No matter what your niche is, Our Hen House aims to give you what you need to be part of a new world for animals." - Jasmin Singer and Mariann Sullivan, the hens of Our Hen House
Episode 42: “An animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language.”
Welcome to the 42nd episode of Our Hen House, featuring Nancy Perry, Kyle Knies, and a super special surprise guest!
In today’s episode, which happens to coincide with both Jasmin’s 31st birthday and World Go Vegan Week, we bring you our vegan tales from NYC: We'll discuss the scrumptious grub that one NYC restaurant — Gustorganics — added in honor of Vegan Week. We’ll also talk about a novel Jasmin’s reading, Water for Elephants, that goes behind the scenes and into the cruel world of circuses. On the much sunnier side, in honor of Jasmin’s birthday, we will be joined by a very special surprise guest! Here’s a clue: She’s 86, recently went vegetarian, and her favorite nickname for Jasmin is “bubala.”
Also joining us today is longtime vegan and animal rights activist, the lovely Nancy Perry, who is the Vice President of Government Affairs for The Humane Society of the United States. Nancy will talk to us all about everything from the Farm Animal Stewardship Act, to the best vegan food in our nation's capital.
Kyle Knies reviews The Birds from an AR perspective
Then — just in time for Halloween — for our review section, we will be joined by Our Hen House's own reviewer, Kyle Knies, who will give you his take on Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds – from an animal rights perspective.
All that, vegan banter, and of course, tons of current events from the world of animal rights.
This week’s news items include:
“New Way to Help Chickens Cross to Other Side” from The New York Times
“Snooki, Lady Gaga’s meat dress are the hot costumes this year for Halloween” from New York Daily News
“Teen saves pet chicken from slaughter at school” from The Kansas City Star
“Go Vegetarian to save planet, scientists tell Government” from The Telegraph
“An animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language.” -Martin Buber
