Before speculating about the reason for the “explosive” increase in autism one has to make sure the explosion is real.

Subscribe to Dr. Greger’s free nutrition newsletter at http://www.nutritionfacts.org/subscribe and get a free excerpt from his latest NYT Bestseller HOW NOT TO DIE. (All proceeds Dr. Greger receives from his books, DVDs, and speaking directly support NutritionFacts.org).

This is an important concept. When we talk about the prevalence or incidence of disease, we are talking about the prevalence or incidence of diagnosis, and so if criteria change, or if we look harder that could create artefactual changes in disease rates.

Stay tuned for my next video: The Role of Pesticides and Pollution in Autism (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/The-Role-of-Pesticides-and-Pollution-in-Autism) and if you missed any of my older ones on preventing and treating ASD with diet (for those interested in preventing and treating—I am well aware that not everyone is!), see
