Marty's Flying Vegan Review

100 posts in the feed.

I'm a vegan charter pilot. I never know where I'll be, (well, sometimes I do), and I blog about the vegan meals I find on the road, from Cleveland to Turks and Caicos.

  • (no title)
You may have been wondering about the radio silence.  Well, I've moved out of the aviating arena and no longer fly the 1% around to their 3rd or 4th homes.  Yes I miss a night or two in Aspen or a quick family visit at LAX but there really isn't much of a legacy when it's all said and done. I've also been having some back issues (...more)

  • I vacationed in California, ate pork, and loved it ... or ... Golden Brewery Blows it big time and then makes it OK, sort of.
My brother works in Glendale and had one more day at the office before vacation.  His company had some good times at the Golden Brewery and since they have specific items marked as vegan or non-vegan, (some have the V/NV marked since they serve both a vegan and non-vegan option ... more on this later), thought this would be an ideal place for lunch. • Rude trumps convenient every time. Green Fig in Brooklyn loses my business
I love when a place goes out of its way to cater to us vegans.  Very much appreciated.  So the first time I ate here I got some grilled veggie sandwich with Balsamic vinegar and vegan cheese.  I casually inquired about the cheese and was shown a package of Rice Cheese.  I guess they finally made rice cheese vegan but as I checked (...more)

  • What's up ... and some shameless promotion
I haven't been doing much in the way of traveling lately for a variety of reasons and my venue of choice, (it's just too quick and easy), is to post a comment on Foursquare and send it out into the twitter-sphere and Facebook land.  So if you haven't followed me on twitter I'm @veganpilotmarty and on Facebook you can look up this blog's page. • WALKING ON TWO FEET: THOUGHTS ON A CRUELTY-FREE FUTURE
Today's post is not specifically about food. It is more generally about life. At the beginning of summer (4 months ago) I walked around my university campus with camera in tow. • SWEET POTATO WEDGES with GARDEN SALAD + SWEET CORN (NO OIL OR SALT)
This is a perfect example of what my dinners look like these days: loads of baked sweet potatoes, greens and fresh veggies. I don't use any oil or salt and yet the whole meal ends up being so flavourful and delicious I can hardly believe it! My secret? Lemon or lime juice and herbs and spices!  Feel free to add a pinch of Himalayan salt if (...more)

  • RAW VEGAN BLOODY MARY
I was really surprised at how delicious this tasted. Then again, if I thought a moment longer I would've realized it shouldn't be surprising at all. I love tomatoes, garlic, lemon and spices! But I've never been into alcoholic drinks, so the idea of Bloody Mary was not exactly a turn on. However, it's one of my moms favourite cocktails so I decided (...more)

Honestly, I haven’t been doing a lot of cooking, so I don’t have much interesting content since I haven’t been trying new recipes. Also, we just bought a house! So we are moving next weekend! Which means we need to pack. […] (...more)

Successfully complete Yoga Teacher Training! – Done. I did it! Now to continue to be a student, and […] (...more)

  • Happy Thanksgiving!
Hey guys, How’s it going? Long time no see? Remember that time I said I’d be blogging again in June? Whoops. So, let’s recap all that’s happened since March: I got my 200-hour yoga certification! Woohoo! And started teaching yoga twice a week, and subbing lots. We traveled to Hawaii, Raleigh, and Austin. It was […] (...more)

  • Hiatus
I’ve been a bad bad blogger. I apologize. I’m juggling a busy season at work, with an exciting adventure to become a yoga teacher (which includes homework), with family time and friend time. So, I don’t have a lot of time or leftover brain space right now to blog. BUT, Former Fish Taco Fanatic will […] (...more)

"My name is Jean and I am a vegan living in the heart of dairy country in New Zealand. I love to cook and I want to promote vegan food as a healthy option which sacrifices nothing in taste. Like Chef Gusteau in the movie Ratatouille, I believe anyone can cook and aim to create recipes which are impossible to botch up. I am currently working on improving my food photography so that my food will look as good as it smells and tastes. In the meanwhile, please trust me…I wouldn’t post a recipe unless I am confident it is good!"

  • Very, Very Rich Chocolate Ginger Cheesecake
Wish me luck…this is my entry for tomorrow’s office bake-off. To call this rich is probably an understatement. I didn’t receive many recipes from my request for help to beat all the non-vegan cooks,  so I figured I had better stop being lazy and create something myself. Base Grease (20-25cm/8-10 inch) spring-form cake tin or … (...more)

  • Peanut Butter Tempeh
This recipe started as an attempt to make a vegan version of butter chicken.  It tasted great and I thought I had created the perfect vegan non-butter non-chicken.  But when I walked past an Indian restaurant and smelled real butter chicken, I realised I had not created vegan butter chicken at all.  However what I … (...more)
